“éS proudly welcome John Tanner to the éS UK team”

Saw this a while ago then re-found it whilst trawling Vimeo

I like it, particularly the shooting style, the use of side streets etc…

My shoes.

What you see before you is what’s left of my Nike 6.0 Air Morgans after two years of pretty much daily use. These have been my casual cycling shoes of choice, first on my mountain bike, then on my fixed gear. They grip flat pedals really well, whilst their stiffish sole and low profile mean i can use them with clips and straps and still put the power down. The only problem I’ve had with these has been that all the seams came undone, but this was only after quite a few months of serious use. These shoes are still my daily bike shoes, only being replaced on longer rides by a pair of Shimanos.

Smithfield Nocturne

Made it down to the Smithfield Nocturne after a herculean journey across London…

The atmosphere was awesome, with so many people around even before the main events had started! Plenty of things to see, TokyoFixedGear were there with some nice bikes on display, as well as the LFGSS t-shirt stand where I bought a new tee. The racing was awesome especially in the lovely setting around the historic Smithfield Market, with the Brompton and folding bike race heats up first, followed by the Cycling Weekly Support Race. I had to leave after that, about 7pm ish. But even so the racing was so good, with laps times getting super quick! An awesome event that I highly recommend, and look forward to seeing again next year, hopefully staying for all of it!

Smithfield Nocturne

Gonna go watch some street racing tomorrow afternoon/evening at the Smithfield Nocturne, looks to be a good event with folding bike race, elite racing and a skid contest! Also trade support from Tokyo Fixed, LFGSS t-shirt stand, Rapha and LookMumNoHands.

I’m gonna go check this out and maybe grab a T-shirt or two… Looks like it should be a good event, will try and get some photos.

“Let me die a youngman’s death” by Roger McGough

Let me die a youngman’s death
not a clean and inbetween
the sheets holywater death
not a famous-last-words
peaceful out of breath death

When I’m 73
and in constant good tumour
may I be mown down at dawn
by a bright red sports car
on my way home
from an allnight party

Or when I’m 91
with silver hair
and sitting in a barber’s chair
may rival gangsters
with hamfisted tommyguns burst in
and give me a short back and insides

Or when I’m 104
and banned from the Cavern
may my mistress
catching me in bed with her daughter
and fearing for her son
cut me up into little pieces
and throw away every piece but one

Let me die a youngman’s death
not a free from sin tiptoe in
candle wax and waning death
not a curtains drawn by angels borne
‘what a nice way to go’ death

Roger McGough
